Redbox files suit against Fox

What a roller coaster ride these last few weeks have been for Redbox, huh?!? They get some huge deals done, and then some bad announcements, and now are suing one of the bad announcement parties (Fox). It’s an interesting point and I’m curious what the result would be, if the judge rules that Fox can keep whoever they want from renting their movies at the same time as others. Either way, doesn’t look like it’s going to stop Redbox’s momentum.

Redbox has filed suit against 20th Century Fox because of the studio’s new distribution terms, which would prohibit Redbox kiosks from carrying Fox DVDs until at least 30 days after their initial street date. “Redbox’s cornerstone principles include providing customers with a convenient way to rent new release DVDs at an affordable price,” said Mitch Lowe, president of Redbox in a statement. “At the expense of consumers, 20th Century Fox is attempting to prohibit timely consumer access to its new release DVDs at Redbox retail locations nationwide."
