Blu-ray Releases – May 17, 2011

Decent week of movies this week, actually a fair amount of new ones. Don’t be confused by the B-movie rip-off of Thor, it’s not the real one. The Roomate was absolutely horrendous and I like thrillers. As much as I enjoyed Anthony Hopkins in the real Thor, I couldn’t stand The Rite as it was basically an Exorcist knockoff.

It’s Jason Statham…in an action movie! I know, hold your breath in shock there for a bit. But as usual it’s an entertaining ride, and there are some creative ways things are exploded. The plot is simple as usual, Statham plays an assassin who has to deal with double and triple crosses and is nearing his retirement and dealing with things. Lots of great chases and fight scenes make this a fun ride for your home theater and surround sound setup.

Note:  Warner Brothers, Universal and Fox titles which  have the 30-day Netflix/Redbox rental window imposed on them are noted with **  next to the title.

    i love jason statham and his ridiculous action films. netflix is delivering the mechanic today (one of the few of his films i didnt bother to go see on opening day)

    Has anyone watched The Rite? 

    Has anyone watched The Rite?  I’m a Hopkins fan but some of his recent movies have been flops, only so many corny villians he can play.

    I watched the mechanic last

    I watched the mechanic last night and it was no where near as good as the original, IMO http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068931/. 

    I’ll take the advice on The Rite and delete it. It has been staring me in the face for about a month every time I fire up My Movies. 

    Has anyone seen Black Death http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1181791/

    My rule is if it isn’t rated over 6 on IMDB then I probably won’t watch it. 

    It would be neat if IMDB had a link to Netflix so you could queue the movie  up from there.

      It would be but considering Amazon owns IMDB I’d guess a link going to Amazon PRIME VOD would come first 🙂
