Blu-ray Releases – May 10, 2011

Finally we have a week with lots of good options! I know I’m going to get a ton of grief for not choosing the fantastic Alien Anthology, which was a very close second for the pick. Butch Cassidy is an all time classic western which was entertaining even in present day. Some Like it Hot, another classic older film featuring Marilyn Monroe and Jack Lemmon was absolutely hilarious. No Strings Attached with Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher was pretty amusing as well albeit predictable.

MissingRemote’s Pick of the Week

Before he was Batman, Christan Bale was awesome in this exciting sci-fi futuristic action film. Along with Taye Diggs the two play a futuristic cops where all sorts of human characteristics are outlawed and feelings are basically not allowed. Of course things take a turn and you get to see some pretty awesome fight sequences. The movie did not get a lot of publicity but definitely has a cult reputation. Amazon says it’s a combination of Matrix with Minority Report…only Christian Bale can beat up Keanu and Tom!

Note:  Warner Brothers, Universal and Fox titles which  have the 30-day Netflix/Redbox rental window imposed on them are noted with **  next to the title.

I’ll have to add it to my NetFlix queue.  As for the Aliens Anthology, only the first two of the series are worthy of mention, both of which will forever be two of my favorite Sci-Fi/Horror classics.  The last two were a vain attempt at milking what started out to be a sterling franchise.  If only they had devoted the same writing and directing skills into the 3rd and 4th installment as they did for the 1st two then it would truly qualify as an outstanding anthology.  Instead they just created two bad sequels to two great movies.

Good pick, Equilibrium was a cool movie.  One of the movies on the list, Blue Valentine was one I hadn’t heard of but after reading this review http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/4755/bluevalentine.html I added it to my Netflix queue to check out.

Oh don’t get me started on that overrated POS!!! I think the girl was nominated for an Academy Award or some garbage. I was so disappointed with that, actually kept watching my watch to be over with. Clearly i’m in the minority here since it got quite a good buzz, but man did I dislike it.
