Blu-ray Releases – April 19, 2011

Another week of not a lot of super star picks here. If you like kung fu, Ip Man 2 I’ve heard many good things about. Street Kings 2 has Ray Liotta in it…he was in Goodfellas, so that has to count for something right? Eh…onto the easiest pick of the week EVER…

MissingRemote’s Pick of the Week

Unless you’ve been asleep for the last 6 months you have surely heard of The King’s Speech, which won FOUR Oscars out of Twelve nominations. And honestly, it deserved it. The film is very enjoyable as it covers the rise of Prince Albert and his issue with public speeching, as he’s aided by a speech assistant played by Geoffrey Rush. Helena Bonham Carter is also her typical enjoyable self, and the movie is wonderful all around. Not my typical film but it’s definitely a must-see!

Note:  Warner Brothers, Universal and Fox titles which  have the 30-day Netflix/Redbox rental window imposed on them are noted with **  next to the title.

I saw the original Ip Man and thought it was quite good.  I’m not a big martial arts fan but Ip Man combined the genre with a well written story that was based on historical facts.  I look forward to seeing Ip Man 2.

Ip Man 2 isn’t as good as the first but still very enjoyable, worth the watch.  If you haven’t seen Ip Man yet, it is available via Netflix Instant

Sweet! Thanks for the heads up!

  • Haven’t seen The King’s

Haven’t seen The King’s Speech, but my wife liked it so much, she saw it three times in the theater.

  • I meant to see The King’s

I meant to see The King’s Speech in theaters but got caught up in stuff and never made it.  Looking forward to finally seeing it.

    • Just got “The King’s Speech”

Just got “The King’s Speech” from NetFlix yesterday.  Will probably watch it this weekend.  I almost saw it in the theater back in January.  My sister-in-law and her husband always take me out for dinner and a movie on my birthday and it was at the top of my list.  I considered the rest of the group and realized they weren’t exactly the type that would want to sit through a 2-hour British drama so we went to see “The Green Hornet” in 3-D instead.  The wife and I will definitely want to watch it.

  • Just picked up Kings Speech

Just picked up Kings Speech at Redbox this morning.  Although, I had the choice between BR and DVD and I went with the DVD.  I’ve got a bar for things I bother getting on BR and a British period piece doesn’t make the cut 😉

It is like Netflix streaming but Netflix puts a little piece of the internet on a disc for you.  So be sure to brag to all your friends about how you have the internet on a disc…
