Roku Update Adds MKV Support, Improved Games and Wireless

Roku 2

Roku has announced Update 4.2 for the Roku 2 and Roku LT. The Roku 2 introduced games to Roku’s line of streamers. Update 4.2 improves game performance and paves the way for new game releases. There are also fixes to improve wireless networking and remote control battery life along with fixes to intermittent audio issues. Android and iOS device owners will also be excited to hear that the update preps the Roku streamers for official remote control apps, though  it sounds like Android fans will have to wait a little longer than Apple fans. The big news however is the introduction of MKV support via USB device. Given how versatile the MKV container is, it will be interesting to see how robust this MKV support will turn out to be. With Roku evidently committed to improving Roku’s media file format support, it is increasingly disappointing that Roku isn’t as interested in local network streaming.

Roku is back with yet another update for the company’s tiny media streamers. This update adds a bunch of welcomed features to the Roku 2 and Roku LT including games and system enhancements.
