Blu-ray Releases – December 14, 2010

Solid selection of movies this week. I’ve heard good things about MicMacs, a foreign film but not seen it yet. Same about Despicable Me, with Steve Carrel’s voice. Cyrus is a drama featuring the super funny Jonah Hill…curious to see how that’s going to work out. I really need to jam on my movie watching!

Btw, those of you interested in Alien Anthology, Amazon UK has a special deal today for the whole set for $40 (when converted to US Dollars) shipped!

MissingRemote’s Pick of the Week

I’m sure most of you thought I was going to pick The A-Team as my pick of the week, but I was so underwhelmed by it. As I’ve mentioned in the forums, if you like the idea of A-Team but think it was weak as well, I highly recommend The Losers from last year…similar presence but MUCH better IMO.

Okay so onto the Other Guys, which was a fun comedy with Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell as desk detectives who have their adventures as they try to be hero cops. Some of it was lame of course, but I found myself laughing enough to definitely recommend. Samuel L Jackson & The Rock have cameos which were pretty darned funny as well. For surround sound freaks, there are some chases and gun fights as well to keep you entertained.

Note:  Warner Brothers, Universal and Fox titles which  have the 30-day Netflix/Redbox rental window imposed on them are noted with **  next to the title.

Hrmm…never seen it, but looks like my cup o’ tea…will need to check it out!

I was thinking the same thing.  The final shootout sequence was just amazing.

For anyone considering the Alien UK purchase, check with your credit card or bank before making the purchase to see what your international charges might be.  US companies can rake you over the coals for the conversion (a higher rate than you might be expecting), as well as in fees.  It might still work out for people, but I wanted to make people aware of those “hidden” charges.

If there is a movie with Will Ferrel in it, I refuse to watch it. In my personal opinion, Will Ferrel is the worst thing to ever exist. He is NOT funny and a horrible actor.

And the movie A team was worthless. Towards the beginning of the movie when they were in the Huey helicopter and they did the barrel roll, I just about turned off the movie. In real life if they did that the rotor head would have come off. It is impossible for that aircraft to do that.

I know it’s just a movie, but come on! I am usually able to suspend my belief in reality when watching a movie, but not for something like that.

I thought I was the only one who felt this way.  My policy extends to just about every Saturday Night Live person.  Exceptions are Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, and some Adam Sandler.

Was this posted under the wrong tag?  High definition DVD vs. High definition optical disc?  At first I thought it was an artifact of the new site, but now I’m thinking it was just the former.

I was trying to go back through the older blu ray releases pots to update my netflix queue and it wasn’t working quite right, but if I go to an older post I can follow this link to get most of the releases posts:

it’s kind of a glitch with the new site for now. our posts can now be linked to forums. So while the news category is “High def optical” the forum doesn’t match that. It’s on the to-do list 🙂
