TVStreamer – Streams Live TV from HDHomeRun to your iPad/iPhone

Here’s a neat new app that’s out that will function with both your original HDHomeRun as well as the new PRIME, assuming the content is not copy-protected of course.

Full release after the break:

Unpaq releases iOS app “TV Streamer” that lets you stream TV to your iPad or iPhone

Gistrup, Denmark (April 26, 2012) – Unpaq has launched a new app for iOS today, which if you have a HDHomeRun networked TV tuner box, will let you stream your TV channels on your local network to your iPad or iPhone.

TV Streamer will find your list of channels and present it with channel logos.
Tapping a TV channel in the list will control the HDHomeRun box, and have it stream the channel directly to the device.
You can edit the list to leave out channels that you never watch, and also reorder the list.

What is so special about TV Streamer?

* It works with all iPads.
* It works with iPhone 4 and 4S.
* It does not require a PC or Mac to be turned on.
It works with all HDHomeRun devices – Current and Legacy Models Globally.
It Supports Digital TV Streams from  ATSC / Clear QAM / DVB-T / DVB-C (Unencrypted).

“TV Streamer continues the advancement of viewing HDHomeRun content on second screens, specifically iOS mobile devices”, said Theodore Head, President / CEO of Silicondust USA Inc.  “TV Steamer supports all current and legacy model consumer HDHomeRun products globally allowing viewing of Over the Air and Unencrypted Cable in all DVB and US markets over WiFi within the customers home LAN network.  Silicondust has always supported freedom of TV viewing throughout the home, and TV Steamer is a new tool of enabling this concept.”

TV Streamer will control the HDHomeRun device and start the data stream to the iPad. To watch the stream you need to buy GoodPlayer.

TV Streamer requires iOS 4.3.

HDHomeRun® devices are developed and sold by SiliconDust USA Inc.
HDHomeRun® is a registered trademark of SiliconDust USA Inc.

Pricing and availability:
TV Streamer is available for purchase for $6.99 on the iOS App Store at:

  • I could see this as a windows

I could see this as a windows 8 tile program, using a ceton or  HDhomerun and streaming to a windows phone too

  • meh… no interest unless you

meh… no interest unless you could stream outside your home network. I already can view all my channels via my Optimum App in home.

I would be more interested as well if they actually added Android support

  • I have paid, downloaded, and

I have paid, downloaded, and used it. It sucked.
First of all, it requires GoodPlayer, fine. I paid that as well. Unfortunately, GoodPlayer sucks too: it’s ugly and it constantly crashes.
I have to switch between applications in order to change channel. For $6.99 + $4.99 = $12, I expect way better experience.
Second, after using the app for a while, it appear the app locks the HDHomeRun tuner up. My desktop WMC7 can’t use the tuner and therefore miss the recordings unless I force to unlock the tuner.
Third, no EPG, no on-screen display, nothing informative.

Fourth, can’t stream video outside my home.

Finally, the comment from Theodore Head (CEO of SiliconDust) seems spooky. I can’t find that on the official website or anywhere else. Did that guy just make this up to make this app sounds exciting?

…from telly.  I have the elgato app which works fine and doesn’t need an external player.  The advantage of the forthcoming telly app is that it works with Silicondust tuners in general (not just the Prime like elgato’s solution) and also offers show information.
