Blu-ray Releases – June 28, 2011

Sometimes we have weeks full of awesome movies making it difficult to pick. Sometimes there just aren’t very many movies at all to pick from. THEN we have weeks like this where there are lots of movies, they just happen to be TERRIBLE. The most hyped movie of the bunch had to be Sucker Punch, from famed director Zach Snyder (Watchmen) and boy does it fall flat–the plot is terrible, the acting is dreadful…sure it’s a “beautiful” film, but I was so bored throughout. I watched Beastly with my girlfriend, and she begged me to leave after 15 minutes, and she’s a romantic. Season of the Witch wasn’t as bad as the above, assuming you can stand Nicolas Cage; if you can’t then you will hate it.

MissingRemote’s Pick of the Week

I can’t think of any other week where “The Warrior’s Way” would have come close to winning the pick of the week, but as you see below the pickings were slim! That being said, I am a kung fu fan and I was thoroughly entertained throughout the film. The plot is basically this–a great warrior assassin flees his home to save a child he was ordered to kill, so he goes to western era USA in a tiny run down town with Kate Bosworth (believable!). The action sequences are awesome and definitely border anime in real action. If you like fighting scenes then you will absolutely love this film.

Note:  Warner Brothers, Universal and Fox titles which  have the 30-day Netflix/Redbox rental window imposed on them are noted with **  next to the title.

Let’s see, it took 8 years for them to release this, so that means you’ll probably be waiting until ~2020 for that version.  I’ve waited long enough at this point.

yeah, I would have chosen The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy too, But I will rent the Warriors Way though. I wasn’t interested in Sucker Punch cause of the mixed reviews, but now that its out on Blu-ray, I will give it a try.   Zathura was good movie, a definitely keeper for my collection.
