Blu-ray Releases – March 15, 2011

If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you’re in luck this week. Also, if you’re a fan of movies that include monsters created by combining an Octopus and a Shark, then you’re also in luck–and a bit odd. But for most, our pick of the week will be everyone’s.

MissingRemote’s Pick of the Week

Full disclosure, I’m a huge boxing fan and have been a long time Mickey Ward fan as well. For those unaware, The Fighter is the drama based on the journey Irish Mickey Ward took to win a championship. Wahlberg and Bale do great job as the brothers, and I found the film very entertaining. Although…I was a bit disappointed not to see a recreation of the Gatti Trilogy which basically made Ward into a legacy. But the movie itself was great and Bale definitely earned his Oscar, as did the woman who played Ward’s mother.

Note:  Warner Brothers, Universal and Fox titles which  have the 30-day Netflix/Redbox rental window imposed on them are noted with **  next to the title.

  • The fighter was great until

The fighter was great until the last 15m or so when they decided that despite the first 90% of the movie they wanted it to be a triumphant boxing movie instead of a movie about familial relationships.

still a solid movie despite the ending, but it could have been better.

also, i thought bale was going a little too over the top with his acting until the credits when they showed footage of the actual brother and it was revealed that bale was spot on.

Oh, come on!  BMX Bandits was

Oh, come on!  BMX Bandits was FAR better than The Fighter.  Australia?  A 16 year old Nicole Kidman?  Teenagers on bicycles?  Stolen walkie-talkies?  What’s not to love?  Talk about an original story!  😉

  • lol, never even heard of BMX

lol, never even heard of BMX Bandits, lol, sounds like a winner though.

And i actually agree David. I was disappointed that more boxing wasn’t shown, and it seemed like they rushed the last bit just to make it end on that note, even though that fight wasn’t CLOSE to his biggest fight. That was like the “WBU” Title, which i’m not sure even exists anymore. I kinda chuckled when they made it seem like he was the “World Champ.” I wish they woulda kept it a bit more true. Mickey Ward was an AWESOME fighter, with insane amounts of heart…but he was known for his wars, not his “titles”

Has anyone seen Au revoir les

Has anyone seen Au revoir les enfants?  I couldn’t tell what the image was in the final cover you posted, so I clicked on it to find out.  Then, I read the description.  I know some of you enjoy subtitled movies and the story sounds interesting, plus it has gotten very good reviews.

I generally despise subtitled movies because you’re too busy reading to enjoy the MOVIE, but I might give this a chance if someone recommends it.

  • Come on!  You’ve never heard

Come on!  You’ve never heard of BMX Bandits??

What’s the deal this time with the Harry Potter movies?  How many times are they going to be released on bluray?  Are they getting to be like The Evil Dead with all of the different releases?
