Q&A: Steve Delp of Magnolia

It’s always interesting hearing these Q&A’s with big wigs from retail corporations, such as Magnolia. With the evolution of shopping, it’s always fun to hear their perspective and how sometimes it’s similar to what you or I might think.


Amazon has changed that game. Just go to Amazon and search a traditional high-end product line like Furman. It’s available on Amazon and what that does from an awareness standpoint is it brings pricing forward and I think protected lines are [fading]. Pioneer Elite did a good job of maintaining distribution of their product for a long time and they couldn’t make money at it anymore. I think that’s the way of the future. It’s going to be challenging. A company like Samsung that sees its entire line as high-performance doesn’t see the need to build another line above it.
