Engadget HD Podcast 159 – 10.13.2009

Podcast musical chairs continues, as Richard returns this week Steve steps out, but never fear — unless of course you have an intense physical reaction to discussions on 3D, Blu-ray and analyst predictions. In that case, it might be time to reach for the Xanax, or at least skip well ahead to our discussions regarding upcoming home theater upgrades, what setup might go best with your Xbox 360 or Playstation 3, and what exactly can be done to take care of loud commercials. Finally, we take a minute to see what new fall programming has stuck in our viewing rotation (not much.)

You can choose the ultra portability of an iPod but you’ll give up video quality. If you want HD quality you can use a laptop or portable media center but those are a bit bigger and more difficult to drag around with you. Today we are taking a look at the ZuneHD. With the Zune you can have ultra portability and HD video quality in one nice looking package.

Forrester research boldy predicted that HDTV would not succeed in a 1998 report, and similar reports are swirling today as consumers try to figure out what to make of 3D. Adam and Phil looks at some of the factors. Including are results of a study that says the majority of consumers are not willing to pay extra for 3D. Finally, Best Buy CEO Brian Dunn told Twice.com that HDTV was in its early stages still. Do our hosts agree?
