Today's better PC systems can decode 24-bit audio in all its high resolution sweetness and output it via 7.1 analog outputs directly to a multi-channel amplifier or to the multi-channel inputs of a pre/pro or surround receiver. While conventional digital outputs can't handle an 8-channel 24-bit 96 kHz signal, there is one option available on many of today's systems that uses a standard found in the recording industry called ADAT Lightpipe.
