MyMovies for iPad – Now Controlling MCE

I’ve spoken to Brian so many times, but it’s pretty cool watching him in person demonstrate his latest changes to MyMovies–now with a pretty awesome touchscreen remote for Media Center on the iPad, along with the usual features of his app, MyMovies for iPad.

  • The video is awesome, however

The video is awesome, however dont be fooled like me. I ran home immediately purchased it to only then find out that this product as shown hasnt been released yet on ITUNES and what I purchased was just the catalog no remote.

On top of that spent 1hr looking around to figure out how to get it started since there is a bug in the software that causes you to change your language setting to another lang and back before it would start. No where does it say that until the last reply in the forum

  • ahhh, that sucks!

ahhh, that sucks! but…knowing Brian, i’d be very surprised if he charged for the upgrade just for that. Anyone know?

  • Rich: Did you not notice that

Rich: Did you not notice that I specifically mention in the video that “We are about to release a software update for the iPad”.

The update is going to be sent to Apple like during today, and then it will take typically 5-10 days for it to become available. The version on the video is version 1.10.

The update will of course be freely available to all current users as any other application on the app store normally is as well.

  • yay! i like being right!

yay! i like being right! Thanks for the update Brian 🙂

  • Thanks! I shouldn’t have

Thanks! I shouldn’t have doubted you. I am a very big MY Movies Fan

  • HaHa, I did the same thing…
HaHa, I did the same thing… I would say I saw the video more then I heard what was being said… I’ve been waiting for a MCE remote to control my extenders and had uninstalled MM two days ago to go with a different movie library but now I’m back… I have already reinstalled, reactivated my MM account and paid my $7 for this remote…

  • well i love the ability to

well i love the ability to have 1 app for everything in MCE.

it is too confusing for non-tech people to use the ipad to control WMC with AirMouse, hipporemote, RedEye and have a cataloge of movies like My Movies.

any chance we are going to be able to get “Play To” feature in a web browser? rather than only in the Ipad app.

I, like many, have a touch screen PC that I would love to be able to use just like the Ipad to scroll through movies and then hit play and it play on the 100″ screen.

It works great on my iPad.

    Thanks

      No…

  • I’m interested in seeing a
I’m interested in seeing a guide button… Yeah I know other apps have this feature and this is a app primarily about MM but, how hard would it be to port the XML for use as a guide. “Please”

  • Program guide functionality

Program guide functionality is out of scope of a My Movies application, which a remote control functionality is not, as you need to be able to control menu’s, transport and similar.

I can’t say for sure, but it is likely that we at some point will create a spin-off application as a seperate application for remote control where such thing is within scope.

    • Thank you so very much for

Thank you so very much for mentioning this specific point…  I (we) look forward to the future development as mentioned above…

I can say, I’ve been aware of your product, MyMovies, and have used it off and on for several years and the product has improved with time to continuely provide a media center experience that surpasses the native product and is considered one of the best MC add-ons since it’s inception…

      Thank you, ARobinso0502

  • You folks don’t know what

You folks don’t know what your missing… I’ve been checking everyday and now it’s here…   The app is available in the APP Store…  My review to follow…

  • ARobinso, hit me up if you’d

ARobinso, hit me up if you’d like when you write the review, would love to put it on the homepage so everyone can read it. mike @ missingremote .com

    I don’t have an iPad 🙁

    • My apologies for the late

My apologies for the late reply… I only had minimal time with the app prior to traveling and did not want to communicate a negative view of the app…  Currently, my issue is that, while my MCE has iTunes 10.x installed, the app does not automatically find my HOST MACHINE…  And in manually adding the host, I’m not able to do anymore then start a movie on the MCE…  I’m currently running iTunes X64 on my Windows 7 X64 config…  I have read that there is a problem with Bonjour X64 and I’m in the process of testing iTunes 9.x to see if the same problem exist…

      Updates to follow…

  • Be sure that you upgrade to

Be sure that you upgrade to 3.19 PR3 for this.

It was planned that 3.19 should be out final at this point, but due to some preparation for TV Series we needed in, we are a bit behind schedule on that.

  • Nm, just noticed the need for

Nm, just noticed the need for 3.19.  I’ll give that a try and see how it goes…

Working with 3.19 of My Movies.

Seems to work well once you are in MCE…

One big issue however, the big green MCE button on the remote AND the remote connection itself ONLY work if MCE is running.    The remote app should be connecting to the tray app immediately, then pressing the green MCE button should load MCE and take you to My Movies page (or at least launch MCE).   Otherwise there’s not a whole lot of reason to not just use a harmony remote.

I will add that I’m excited about the iPhone version.  The iPad is a bit large for a remote 🙂

So here’s to hoping you can add launching of MCE Binnerup.

  • This is for now by design and

This is for now by design and expected.

The remote server runs inside Media Center, not outside, and therefore only runs once Media Center is started. This means that starting Media Center would require a second server for the host PC.

The functionality is as it is now designed for users who exclusively use the Media Center, and therefore have the option enabled to start Media Center on startup.

  • Downloaded the lastest

Downloaded the lastest version of both the IPad software and the latest rc3 version of My Movies. Got everything working great. Great Job! If you have an IPAD run dont walk and get the application.  I currently have it hooked up to two Media Center PC’s. Love how it functions on Media Center. The only problem is with BluRay disks that have been ripped to my network drives. When I play them with Slysoft TMT the remote ceases to function and eveytime you hit a key the taskbar pops up but nothing happens. I believe it is because when you are playing the BluRay you are not actually running Media Center. Don’t know if this will be fixed. If not then I will have to convert those Blurays to MKV files so I can stay within Media Center.
