Warner puts Observe, Ghosts on VOD before DVD

I wonder how Redbox feels about this announcement? You have to love where Movie Studios are going with this announcement though, it’s showing some outside the box thinking from traditional methods, and I think it’s a win-win. Gives them another advantage over Netflix–no having to drive or wait for your movie, just stream it immediately at the same time.

Video Business

It’s the first test by a major studio in releasing a film on VOD before DVD and is another first for Warner, which in 2007 began releasing films on DVD and VOD simultaneously. Both moves are attempts to boost revenue on VOD (for which the studio gets a bigger cut of rental revenue than with DVD) without hurting DVD sales, which are already in decline as the format matures.
