As far as acting goes, you don’t need to worry too much in this movie. The dialog is minimal. For his few lines, he did a fine job. That said, a parrot could’ve delivered them just as efficiently. 🙂 (As I said I’d admit, if it were the case.) Of course, I didn’t go to see this movie for the dialog and they kept the majority of that to the pros… thankfully. I definitely appreciated the MMA moves which were shown, but was disappointed that there wasn’t more. Then, again, you can’t have big explosions in hand-to-hand combat.
In the end, this movie will make for a great showcase on TNT during their next “movies for guys who like movies” stint.
The wife and I just got back from seeing this movie and it was everything I expected and more. (My expectations were apparently lower than they should have been. 🙂 ) As I previously read, if you’re a fan of those old action movies from the previous era, you’ll love this movie. I also think they kept it more “real”, which was a nice, somewhat unexpected departure. A number of things you could see coming from miles away, both scenes and dialog, but it was still quite enjoyable. Explosions, killing, fighting, one-liners… it’s all there. I saw quite a few couples there. Maybe everyone has as great a significant other as I do, who actually enjoys movies like this, but I got the feeling a number of the females in the theater were dragged there. 😉
My verdict: Just go see it! ;D

[/quote]Okay, the MMA fan in me is coming through now. 🙂 Let’s not compare the (lack of) acting skills in WWE wrestlers to real people who (as far as I know) never did any “performing”, following storylines, etc. Randy Couture is a real fighter, not a “pro wrestler”. That said, we’ll see how Randy does in this movie and I’ll have no problem coming back to this thread and saying, “Okay… Randy really needs to stick to MMA”, if it’s warranted. ;D
Personally, I can’t think of any wrestlers I enjoyed in movies. The Rock was “ok” in Game Plan, but that was more visual comedy that had me enjoying the movie, as opposed to his actual delivery of lines. Steve Austin in Condemned was… well… also, “just ok”. I’m really hoping The Expendables will be better than Condemned was.
Hmmm… not sure about that one, but I’ll certainly give it a go, as well. I’m not running the betas, but maybe I installed SageTV after AC3filter or something. Actually, come to think of it, I believe I’m using ffdshow, rather than AC3filter. So many things to check already. 🙂 Thanks for the ideas so far!
I was using the latest of both, but I’ll check if newer ones have come out.

[/quote]You know, the loss of the remote had never crossed my mind. I have backups of just about everything and could get by with certain other things failing until a replacement came in. But, the remote? Yeah, that would be tough! I guess I’d be stuck (re)learning the necessary shortcut keys.

Is Steve Carrell as annoying in all his movies as he is on The Office? Between that and his role in Bruce Almighty, I decided I didn’t like him. I had a similar experience with Will Ferrell and Jim Carrey, but at least The Truman Show and Liar, Liar got me to give Carrey another chance. I still dislike most of Carrey’s movies, though.
To be completely fair, I do have to admit that I had some memory in my HTPC go bad due to–what I assume to have been–power surges in my house. That went away after I put the HTPC on a UPS. So, while we can’t prove it, you may very well be on to something there.
I did like the Tivo when it was working, though, as did the wife. Their interface was perfect back then. Looking back, I’m still glad I went the SageTV route, though. I like the control I have over everything and the expansion capability much more than the Tivo interface was worth to me.
Due to my primarily HD content, I decided to use MKVs for everything I put on the server and it has been working quite well. It took a while to figure out how to get everything just the way I wanted it (default flags, etc) and perfect (ha!) the process, but I’m pretty content now.

I guess I’m really unlucky then, since I had 4 power supplies go in my units over the years and also 3 card readers. Mind you, my cards were never removed until the reader stopped working.

I can take exception to their choice in drives and their–in my experience–high failure rate, though. They may not have made the drives, but they did choose the manufacturer. Perhaps the faulty power supplies were even killing the drives. Who knows…

Either you’re really lucky or I’m very unlucky. As I said previously, with the amount of time and money being spent on repairing my Tivo units, the lost TV shows, the missed recordings, and the aggravation, I quickly realized that building my own HTPC with quality hardware would cost me LESS money. I even drew up a spreadsheet with the costs over the years and expected failures, then compared that to newer Tivo units, DirecTV DVRs, switching to cable, and an HTPC setup. SageTV won handily and I don’t have a single regret about the path I chose.
I think I’m on board with phoneguy, too. If that doesn’t work and you think it’s a codec issue, PM me and I’ll run one through my SageTV V6 setup in Windows.
I assume you’ve tried playing the AVIs outside of SageTV and they work?
