[/quote]Since I have an ATI card with HDMI, I don’t think I could get the audio from the sound card to go out over the ATI or vice versa. Since I’ll only be using the X-fi for old games, I don’t think it’s a big deal to switch the audio source from the ATI to the X-fi.

In the end, the pricing all comes down to one issue: competition. There ain’t none! Until we have 3, 4, or 5 companies vying for people’s dollars, there’s absolutely ZERO incentive for any of these companies to offer lower rates. Has anyone, EVER, had their monthly bill go DOWN? Or, have you ever been given something in your current package (that you actually wanted) without an increase? It will never happen, as long as these companies are given monopolies in their areas.
LOL! Well, I’m still enjoying “the Shat” hamming it up. Will it bother me if that gets canceled? Not really, but it’s another mindless show that I find amusing… much like I feel about Outsourced.

[/quote]Unless I’m missing something, it’s $120-$250 (new, since I can’t find any used) for the Auzentech versus $60 for the X-fi Titanium (used, ebay).
Monopolies tend to work that way. Phone companies, TV, and Microsoft. 😉

[/quote]Hey now, I resemble that remark! 😉 I admit it hurts each month, but I also get to watch quite a few things I wouldn’t be able to otherwise. Between Syfy, DIY, Spike, HBO, and Starz, we’d be missing quite a few shows. Could we watch them later using Netflix or something? Sure, if I wanted to subscribe to their service instead. It’s not like we could completely get rid of satellite and go Netflix and OTA only. Besides, at that point, you start to negate the savings and you have to weigh the pros and cons.

That would seem to confirm my own thoughts about this. In essence, without Alchemy, it won’t work. In order to get Alchemy, I need a compatible sound card, which I don’t believe any of the Auzentech are (you said the same thing). The X-fi, however, does have Alchemy available for it. So, I think I’m back to needing to pick up an X-fi. Off to ebay… 🙂

That’s one of the reasons I didn’t even give it a shot. In SD, I won’t watch anything I’m not already completely invested in. Come on, DirecTV, BBCA, DIY, and AMC… all in SD?!?! What the hell? But, I certainly appreciate all the locals you offer across the entire country, which have nothing to do with me. And, this latest round? Thanks for the Sony Movie Channel and the Mega TV channel. What exactly airs on those channels?
I’m getting really confused after all the reading I’ve been doing. Isn’t Creative’s “Alchemy” what I need in Windows 7 in order to get EAX to work? The reason I say this is because I have an X-Meridian which supports EAX 2.0, but Baldur’s Gate will not let me enable EAX. This is what makes me suspect I need Alchemy.

[/quote]If you’ve got WHS, just use that then. Manually create those two backups and lock them, so that WHS won’t delete them on you. I go a little overboard with how long I keep my backups because I have the storage space, but you’ll probably be fine with more moderate settings. WHS is a wonderful thing to be able to fall back on.
Kinect? Really? I’m highly interested in both Kinect and Move, but I’m waiting to see how the games shake out first. While people who have tried Kinect are impressed with the technology, the games are pretty much on rails, which usually doesn’t make for a very good experience and leads to boredom rather quickly.
Yep, I did know that EAX wasn’t an encoding format, but thanks for making sure. What I wasn’t clear on was how those effects managed to get from game to speakers. I knew I needed an EAX compatible sound card, so the game would recognize it, but that was it.
So, if I pick up an X-fi, do I need to purchase that $5 software package you linked to or will the “free” one on the X-fi download page be enough?
BTW… thanks for the assistance here!
From what I understood, they had quite a lot of material to pull from and cobble together some good stories. I imagine they have a plan for a much longer series, if the network allows.
