I think a large part of the problem is that there aren’t many HTPC cases that really showcase the potential of the platform – I only know of 2 off-hand, and they aren’t drool-worthy. Secondarily, there aren’t as many boards to choose from and the boards that are available can be hard to find.

If your PC can handle it, madVR is worth a try.

The underlying problem might be something included in the codec pack. Sometimes there are filters that force themselves into the graph included.

Try watching the content in a new version of MPC-HC using only the LAV internal filters.

See if there’s a setting in the AMD GPU config for file detection or something like that.

They are both nice, but I prefer the first one’s cleaner face.

It’s an interesting case for “desktop”, or light server use. Don’t think I’d want to use it as a HTPC though.

Does your PC list 120Hz as a supported framerate? If it does, you should be able to use any player that supports madVR (MPC-HC, JMC, Meedio, etc.) to playback 24p at 120Hz w/o telecine judder (if it doesn’t enable IVTC automatically, you can force it).

Looks nice. How’s the build materials quatilty vs. the Wesena chassis?

                          Is IR100 RC-6 compatible?

FWIW, I’d probably buy something newer. AFAIK, they never fixed the driver issues with Colossus.

I reviewed it for Anandtech back in 2011, and Aaron reviewed it for Missing Remote.

Do you know why they design cases like this that support mATX (does the market research support it)? You can’t get the full value out of mATX in a chassis like this, and there are intrinsic compromises for designing for both board sizes that ITX users must now live with.

Is that just ITX (read-good)? I like the look of it, full-size PCIe option (would be a good place to put a Ceton ITV PCIe; heat would rise straight out of the case), potential for dual width dGPU (for those inclined) and the passive HSF. Very clean.

Does it fit a 3.5″ drive?

If playback is the only goal, an i5 will be overkill and likely a bit less power efficient. On the other hand if you intend to do more with it (game, scan for commercials, etc.) and i5 will be $ well spent.
