This is more interesting than useful as the battle for and against AllVid (the CableCARD replacement) continues onward. Not quite sure what to make of it. As one of the media companies trying to convince the FCC that the new AllVid replacement for CableCARD is unnecessary, Fox recently called the FCC and informed it of negotiations with a pay-TV service […]

Lian Li is a case company known for making quality aluminum enclosures. They’ve always erred on the side of form over anything too flashy, but have made an HTPC case for almost 10 years if memory serves me. HTPC’s and home servers are becoming a popular fad at this present time and as more consumers are jumping on this band […]

This year, we’ve seen a big push from LG to promote 3D LCD panels utilizing inexpensive passive 3D glasses. The tech known as film patterned retarder (FPR) has a drawback in that it cuts the resolution of the image in half. Not so much a full review as an update, as Netgear has released a new firmware on their 550 Media Player. The price (and looks IMO) are still somewhat of an issue given the competition. Read moreI think everyone here is a fan of hacks and tweaks that let you do things that weren’t originally designed. So if you’re one of them, and you happen to be one of the unlucky Android owners of an unsupported phone, there’s a chance you can still use the new Netflix application to stream. Pretty neat…of course, if it breaks […]
Read moreI absolutely did not see this one coming. I’m a fan of Two and a Half Men, but Kutcher never even crossed my mind as the replacement for Charlie Sheen. To be fair, they aren’t recasting Charlie Harper, rather they’re introducing a new character to be played by Kutcher. I was never a fan of anything he did, especially That […]
Read moreThe fall 2011 and winter 2012 TV lineups are starting to flow in. Some really surprising results have come out. Some good shows or at least I thought they were good shows on Fox are getting the AX. Lie To Me, Human Target, The Chicago Code are all done. Normally we weren’t suppose to find out about next seasons shows […]
Read moreThe good folks over at MaximumTech, MaximumPC’s new sister site, have put together a solid overview of most of the current mainstream online movie and TV streaming and rental services. There is not a lot of new info here, but it is a handy guide for making side-by-side comparisons of the major services if you have been thinking of casting a […]
