• I’ve pretty much stopped

I’ve pretty much stopped buying new BD discs at this point given the 4K format is just around the corner.   Since it appears the technology hasn’t been siezed, there’s always a chance they could come back in China or somewhere else.  In the meantime, the latest version should work for quite a while with any older discs.   But still disappointing to see.

I was thinking the same thing, they could just move their shop and setup somewhere else.  So much for my lifetime license though…

    • I really hope that they

I really hope that they planned for this sort of thing and escrowed the code somewhere offshore. If they did, could be up and running reasonably quickly. As long as there isn’t some sort of legal “stop it or we’ll ruin you” agreement that binds them.

Best case. They created a FOSS timebomb with the source :). We can dream, can’t we?

There is always makemkv (for the time being, at least)

  • I have a lifetime license for

I have a lifetime license for AnyDVD HD, but I haven’t used it in years.  It’s a great product if you like to play iso’s or actual discs on a PC using any one of the software playback apps.  I switched to using MakeMKV a couple of years ago and never looked back.  I’m actually surprised to hear that Slysoft is going under.  I thought they were located offshore in Antigua or someplace that isn’t governed by our copyright and DMCA regulations.

I have a lifetime license as well and I haven’t used in years either but I was more than happy to help support Slysoft and their development–no regrets on purchasing.
