Blu-ray Releases – January 4, 2011

Woo! The first Blu-ray releases post of the new year! Actually some good flicks, with the release of Desperado/El Mariachi, which if you haven’t seen either/both of them you really should–action packed, with a bit of humor, great stuff. Dinner for Schmucks is a mixed bag, you either love or hate it. I was in the right frame of mind so I laughed an awful lot, but you really have to be in that mindset. I’m a big horror fan, but The Last Exorcism did not live up to what I had heard about it. Disappointing but oh well. Really a pretty decent week, with something for all genres.

MissingRemote’s Pick of the Week

 Machete **

The lead villain though, man that was a boring performance! Full disclosure–I’m a HUGE fan of Danny Trejo. Ever since his knife wielding days in Desperado (which also is out on Blu-ray today) the dude just oozes Mexican-tough-guy-who-will-chop-your-head-off. And Machete is no different! Plus having Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodrigues doesn’t hurt the film either. Tons of action, lots of violence, and an underwhelming cameo by Steve Seagal, but this bloodbath of a film was a fun ride the whole way through!

Note:  Warner Brothers, Universal and Fox titles which  have the 30-day Netflix/Redbox rental window imposed on them are noted with **  next to the title.
