Ultimate AV reviews Toshiba XD-E500 Upconverting DVD Player — not impressed

What has Toshiba been up to since the death of HD DVD? Well supposedly developing a kick-ass standard definition upconversion technology called XDE (eXtended Detail Enhancement).

Ultimate AV put the first DVD player to utilize this new tech through its paces and wasn’t too impressed, especially when you consider it costs $150, which is most of the way to a basic Blu-ray player (and possibly exactly the same cost as a BR player on Black Friday).

If $150 is the max you can spend on a DVD player, you may want to audition the Toshiba as well as other players in this price range. If you can stretch your budget above $150, there are better products that bring more to the screen.
