Zone Defense and Home Theater Design Theory

Planning your home entertainment setup can be a daunting task. I am smack dab in the middle of the very same thing and just can't figure out what I want to do. As the linked article from F-Stop details, dividing your home into zones can simplify the process. He even throws in a good sports analogy :).

F-Stop Blues

In a home theater design, with a man-to-man strategy you would place your home theater equipment wherever you physically are. You would put your TV in front of your couch, a stereo in your den, maybe a smaller TV in your bedroom. Your TV's and stereo's are placed according to where you are, not where they will perform the best. You are going man-to-man with all of your home theater components and sometimes your home theater won't be able to keep up. Imagine if Spud Webb (he's only about 5 feet tall) had to guard against Shaquile O'Neal (who is a little over 7 feet tall).
