How NOT to build a Low Cost HTPC Solution, Courtesy of GearDigest

How "low cost" is $866 is beyond me, but GearDigest seems to think so, and their Day2 build will be a high end system which I can only imagine how much it's going to cost. Oh, and for $866, you get a 200gb hard drive, and that's to store HD shows as well…it's just baffling. Maybe someone else can make some sense, but I'm actually a little offended after reading this. Just for starters advice, if this is a low cost solution, don't spend $259 on a case & power supply!! Their only saving grace is that they mention using a cheaper case/psu in the conclusion, but c'mon guys, no way a "low cost" system should have that!

Today, we build a low cost system priced at $886 for hardware only. Tomorrow, we'll turn the tables on the cost equation and put a much more powerful Media PC together. In our third and final day of coverage on this topic, we'll summarize what we saw and learned, and make some recommendations as to how one might make best use of the various systems involved, and we'll show you some photographs of these two builds.
