Nielsen study shows connection between TV ratings and Twitter activity

While this may seem obvious, I’m always pleased to see these old research firms adapt their studies to be more comprehensive of the world as it is today. I would love to see how the effect of twitter has affected DVR usage–if you’re a regular twitter user, do you make it a point to watch your favorite shows earlier now to avoid being spoiled?

Certain types of programming — reality TV, comedies and sports — showed a higher percentage of ratings changes influenced by social media, while things like scripted dramas showed a smaller but still noticeable uptick.
