might just be the company that runs those Blockbuster kiosks maybe (Blockbuster doesn’t have anything to do with em but licensing rights to their name)

yeah, i read more closely into everything after posting. guess i got a bit ahead of myself. What surprised me most…jailbreaking your iphone is legal! that’s pretty sweet and unexpected.

A shame the one about converting a movie into another format to be able to travel with on other devices wasn’t….which is just dumb

But none of this really matters, because Blockbuster isn’t going to survive!  Slimy or not, who cares?  What I care about is what occurs after Blockbuster does die.  What will happen to the 28-day rule, and how will Blockbuster’s demise affect Netflix and others?  Most importantly, what does it mean for the consumer?

GREAT POINT! And i agree, i think the writing has been on the wall for quite some time, and it’s only a matter of time before they’re gone. THAT’S what still bugs me about the 28-day blah that (in my opinion) they helped orchestrate–Netflix and Redbox will be restricted to it even after Blockbuster is long gone. It’s really tough to change hollywood once things are accustomed.

yes that the Xbox360 is the only Extender still being actively sold. The new version, which is quieter and has lower power draw is the ideal one of course, but will cost you more.

The Linksys DMA2100/2200 (with DVD player) was a decent one, but the UI was not animated so looked kinda bleh.
The HP Extender 280n i think was the model of their extender, which had better quality UI (we have a review here believe it or not 😛 under general reviews)
And then there was one other, which for the life of me i can’t remember….

You should be able to find one of the last two for pretty cheap at this point.

Blockbuster is tiny..how can they have possibly have had a huge impact! lol maybe Wal-mart and Target had a big say…or just plain and simple the studios didnt want their content going around for a 1dollar..

Bigger than Netflix and Redbox combined at least, agree on that?

anyone who thinks Blockbuster didn’t have a *HUGE* influence on the Studios pulling this are just being delusional. You think it’s a coincidence that this happened as Hollywood Video went bankrupt and Blockbuster in dire financial straits? The studios just happened to suddenly realize the errors in their ways?

What was the movie that quoted, “there’s nothing random in life” 🙂

                          deal and deal

and i’m equally pensive about A-Team as well, hence held off until rental where less expectations

hrmmm…i’ll have to check out the Tin Man.

But definitely give Losers an open mind when you watch it. I mean, take it for exactly what it is–an action packed joy ride. I was *stunned* when my gf enjoyed it so much

I don’t see how the author calls this “slimy”.  It’s just simply the truth.

Ok, so let me clarify my own facts! First, i’m NOT a Netflix subscriber.

Okay, with that out of the way, the reason i called it “slimy” is because IMO it was BLOCKBUSTER (believe who you want) that “helped” the studios in creating this bogus 28 day waiting period. I’m a fan of equal and fair competition, and I never understood nor support this. If I own a movie rental company, and you’re bigger and own a bigger movie rental company, you should not get to force me to wait for anything. That’s just not fair trade in my book.

I can’t even think of a comparable example to equate this to, because i’ve simply never heard of one it’s so absurd.

Just my opinion, but it (clearly) bugs me when a big company abuses its power and basically removes equal competition (the equal part being all movie rental companies getting the same selection to the same movies at the same time, let the best service win)
