It’s not very often that something lives up to the "Ultimate" billing (cough… Vista), but GeekTonic’s guide to the fall TV schedule does it in spades. If you’re like me and never watch commercials this is how I find out what’s new. Here’s how this works. With this post you get a listing of all of the major US […]

Those familiar with SageTV know that one of its major strengths is an consumer electroincs (CE) style extender, the STP-HD200, which really extends the entire experience – supporting everything from DVDs with menu support, to BDMV (Blu-ray folders) and MKV with PGS (aka Blu-ray) subtitles. The STP-HD200 was not perfect however, especially for those who use standby on the […]
Read moreI wonder what the value add is for that $40. Side-by-side and top-bottom 3D content already play just fine an HTPC (tested personally :)) you just need to tell the TV what kind of content it is. The only thing that doesn’t work is 3D BD which requires an HDMI 1.4 driver – which I think is supposed to be […]
Read moreI’m not that familar with what the different types of PlayReady licenses mean, but it looks like SageTV now has a PlayReady Master Agreement Licensee. With names like Netflix and SiliconDust also on the list hopefully it’s a precursor to good things to come. Thanks to cyberwolf for pointing this out. PlayReady Master Agreement Licensees SageTV, LLC [Approved Microsoft® […]
Read moreI’m going to file this one away in the "maybe someday" category of home theater kit, but well worth a read to see what feature will hopefully trickle down in the mainstream AVRs. Read moreI’m not sure how I feel about header optimization when it’s a breaking change. Seems like the kind of thing that you don’t change the spec on mid stream, but maybe that’s just me. A few weeks ago I updated to the latest mkvtoolnix, which I believe is currently at v4.2.0. I unfortunately noticed a bad side effect of […]

New features: -Category view in the Video Browser, with options to edit categories and also parental ratings for imported videos -Merged SageTVTranscoder with latest public version; should resolve many transcoding issues; we also added […]
Read moreComing in at $350 and $699 I’m not sure that either player really warrants the cash outlay unless you really need discrete analog outs. To 3D or not to 3D, that is the question. Sorry to go Shakespeare on you, but I’m skeptical as to whether 3D is the next big thing on the horizon. Samsung is one of […]
