I also have a Panasonic UT50. The picture quality is AMAZING. The only reason I could see not going for a plasma would be if you had the possiblity of glare. Other than that, I can’t speak highly enough about my Panny. 😀

Another thing to try is to use the Microsoft DRM reset tool. I had to use this when I swapped motherboards. Thankfully I didn’t have any flagged recordings, I think you lose access to them when you do the reset. Plus you have to rerun the channel scan and set the guide back up. :/

Well I got a wild hair this weekend and swung by Fry’s. I don’t know if our Fry’s is long for the world as they seem to be trying to slash prices as much as possible. I actually got some stuff for a bit cheaper than what Newegg had it for. I ended up getting:

Got it set up Saturday. Forgot what a pain setting up DRM and the channel guide is with a new motherboard.

I decided if I was going to go with an integrated solution I’d stick with ATI as it has the fewest issues with ArcSoft 5. So far I’m liking it. I know the CPU is a bit hotter than what I had but I figure I’m losing the video card as well. So far the system runs cooler and quieter than what I had before. Anybody want to buy an almost-new Sapphire 6570?

I hate to dash your hopes, but VZ has halted all future FIOS deployment.  If your local municipality has already given VZ a franchise then you will eventually get it.  But if they are not negotiatiing any new franchises.

            Agh. That sucks.

I already have the 6570 and I know it works perfectly with my setup . . . that’s pretty much the only reason why I’m keeping it. 😉

I’m looking at the i5-3450S, it’s only a 65W CPU. Still hot but better than what I have.

I had considered just going with another Sandy Bridge setup like an i3-2105 but the price difference between IB/SB is not very much at all.

That Intel board looks like it would fit if there is sufficient length clearance on the slot “north” of the 16x slot. Certainly better than what I am using now; see attachment.

Not to hijack your thread but is there a reliable map anywhere that shows planned FIOS rollouts? I’d love to switch but Comcast is the only provider in my area at the moment.

I’ve been out of the loop computer-wise for the last few months.  I’ve actually been going outside doing stuff a lot lately so I have not been keeping up to date on what’s going on in the computer/htpc world?  I was just wondering if there has been any significant news or fixes lately?  One thing that I notice on a daily basis is that Netflix still locks up all my computers if I let the show run to the very end.  Also, it is still pretty “jerky”.  Anything been done to fix this lock-up issue with Netflix or any update to smooth out playback?  Has Microsoft ever released a stable update to Silverlight?  I know the last time I tried updating that it made my cpu usage go sky high and reverting back to the old version restored it to normal.  Since then I’ve been afraid to update.

The Netflix thing is a Silverlight issue, IIRC. Install the latest version and you should be set.

How does the 6570 perform with TMT5? Is the auto-refresh rate switch working? (auto switch to 24p)

                    Great, and yes.

I tried the GT430 and 6570 after I bought a 3D TV. Was not pleased with the GT430’s performance in regard to 3D movies. 6570 is very nice, well worth the money. I have not noticed the 29/59 flash others are speaking of and recorded TV is probably 75% of what I watch.

Mine does this intermittently as well – particularly for shows that my wife watches like The Hills, House Hunters, etc. I always assumed that it was a problem with the guide data. Generally when they get scheduled like that the air date info is not there, so I think MC just automatically assumes that it was a new ep and put it on the schedule.

I already record most of the shows mentioned here. The only shows I’m planning on adding to my queue are the aforementioned “Stuff My Dad Says” and “Outsourced”.

Kind of surprised no one has mentioned “The Walking Dead.” It looks AMAZING.

Hoo, boy, what a trip. Got the new HDMI cables today. Reran everything and noticed that the connection at the video card just wasn’t very solid. I pulled my HTPC out and examined it . . . in the LC-10E, the slot farthest away from the power supply has a ridged lip on it. The shield around the HDMI cable was running into the lip. So I shifted the card over a little bit and then wacked on the lip a bit to fold it over just enough so that the cable would seat fully. Everything now works like a champ.

Tried changing my HDMI input from TV/SAT to BD, thinking maybe it had some problems with 1080p on an connector intended for a TV box. No help.

One of my HDMI cables is a clearance special from Menards, so maybe it’s an issue. I went ahead and ordered a couple new ones from Monoprice
