Intel Announced They Are Looking Into IPTV Service by End of 2012

Intel announced today they have been in contact with several media companies over the last several months trying to establish a “virtual cable provider” to content with the very fast growing group of companies completing in the space currently. Intel said they expect the service to roll out by the end of this year. Many people seem to be excited that there is going to be great completion in this area and giving more competition to local cable companies. Let the “Virtual Cable Provider” try to come in and take over…

Intel has for several months been pitching media companies on a plan to create a “virtual cable operator” that would offer U.S. TV channels nationwide over the Internet in a bundle similar to subscriptions sold by cable- and satellite-TV operators, according to people familiar with the effort. Intel wouldn’t provide Internet access, which subscribers would obtain separately.
