More importantly, SA often hangs when encountering copy protected shows.   I assume Comskip doesn’t have this problem.   Also SA development is pretty much dead.   I can’t even get their forum site anymore.   I suspect you could quickly add a DVRMSToolbox rule to not try to scan shows with the protection bit on.    I’m still using SA, but switching to Comskip is on my TODO list.

          You should also be able to achieve a similar result by disabling dynamic contrast in the NVIDIA control panel.

          That was the first thing I tried, but unfortunately that didn’t work for me, or a number of other folks on the Nvidia forums.   In the past when I’ve seen the dynamic contrast problem, it’s like a black frame was inserted in the stream.  This problem was more of a white flicker.

          But the above registry change did the trick.   Thanks for the Intel info.   I’m waiting for the i7-3770T to be generally available and then I’ll probably pull the NVIDIA card out.

            So I verified that Ian’s fix for the 59/29 refresh rate pipeline bug does indeed work with the 301.42 drivers, which you would expect given his background.    Here’s the registery entry in a file format if that’s easier for you to deal with.  This one is for 0-255:

            Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

            [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREDebugehPresenter.dll] "NominalRange"=dword:00000001

             Change the 1 to a 2 if you prefer 16-235

              Well, the honest truth is I mostly use my LG-BD690 for playing BDs since I’ve had so many headaches with TMT.   But when I’m up to the challenge, I do put the card in 23Hz mode (which should actually be 23.967 or some such) for BD.   I don’t believe the TMT autoswitch feature works when you launch it from WMC.

              I recently upgraded my motherboard to a Gigabyte Z77 and TMT has been pretty well behaved, but that was with the 290 drivers.   Haven’t done any testing with the 275.33.

              Stability isn’t a problem with the newer drivers, just that one specific bug with refresh rate switching…

              I haven’t tried this which claims to fix the problem with the latest driver.   Has this worked for anyone else?

                Check out this post on the Arcsoft TMT Forum.   (Ignore the subject) They go into the 23 vs 24 issue in detail.

                You have to force the refresh to 23.976 once the movie has started, otherwise you get the usual frame skip every 40s or so as TMT plays it at 24hz irrespective of the 23hz setting (we’ve already discussed this and my hopes are high that in a future update the 23 hz setting in TMT will also apply to 3D movies).

                Interesting that Jason@Arcsoft just runs at the default 24Hz and says he never sees a problem.

                  Note if you want to try the auto-refresh rate change in TMT, you need to add

                  Refresh23HZ=1

                   under the [GENERAL] section to the AppDataRoamingArcSoftArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre 55.2PlayDVD.ini

                  And then make sure the “Automatic refresh rate switching” checkbox is checked in the video settings.    Note there’s another PlayDVD.ini file if you are launching from Windows Media Center and I assume the feature works there as well.

                  That said, I have yet to ever see TMT play a BD without stuttering or losing audio sync somewhere along the line.    I strongly recommend having a standalone BD player as a backup for those times where all you really want to do is watch the movie…

                    I’m still getting this message, but I’m never around to check the tuners when it does.  It seemed to be going away the last couple of days but it came on strong today.  Dr. Phil again, Jeopardy, and The Office all got flagged tonight.  But even though The Office stopped recording about 11 minutes in, Up All Night, which comes on right after The Office, was recording fine until I had to reboot my system because it started to act weird.

                    I’ve checked the recording logs and seen the “Partial” recordings, but it doesn’t give a specific error, just that it stopped.  This is unbelievably frustrating.

                    Interesting.  I saw the Modern Family fluke as well, and it did seem to cascade to other shows, but a reboot cleared up the problem for me (and given your BSODs, I suspect you’ve done that).   The other note is I’m still using ATI tuners, but there are plenty of other Ceton folks out there now, I doubt that makes a difference.

                      Just passed the 2 year mark for my Cosair P128 in my HTPC.   I record to the SSD, run commercial detection at night and then move the shows off to the NAS, so it get’s plenty of work.   CrystalDisk info says 9372 power on hours (I assume the drive is powered down when idle) but that’s still over a year and 98% health status.    I believe it said 98% the day I installed it as well.

                        good thread.  I have showanalyzer set up with a directory watcher so all I do to have this run overnight is to set up a task to start the service at a specific time and then another task to stop it early in the morning before everyone wakes up.  That gives plenty of time for it to run through all of the days recordings and it makes the script really simple.

                        to start it:

                        net start ShowAnalyzerMaster
This is exactly what I do, but I use DTB to monitor the directory rather than ShowAnalyzer, because I have DVRMToolkit do other tasks (like move the files off the SSD to the NAS).   Basically, Task Scheduler just does the following:

                        @3AM: net start DTBService

                        @8AM: net stop DTBService

                        Seems to do the trick.

                          I had a similar problem with one of my internal ATI tuners (which is just a USB device).   I ended up running a USB cable out the back of the case and plugging it back into a different USB Hub, which solved the problem for me.   You may just want to try a different USB port on the machine that maps to a different controller if you haven’t already.

                            I’ve also been wondering about the two flat-screen TV hook-up. Is it even possible to watch two shows at once (football games) with a Ceton card and whatever app I use to watch FIOS TV?

                            Basically DHCP restrictions are going to bite you if try this trick, but I’m wondering if you could pull this off by running a VM on one screen, and then sharing the Ceton card over the network?   But as mentioned previously, you’re going to have a headache with the remote…

                            Best bet is as I mentioned above, using extenders for the second TV. That is the only real option as you can’t watch two different shows from one pc at the same time without an extender.
I agree the extender is far more practical, but in theory a VM should work as well.    It’d be an interest project to get working.

                                SO, there’s nothing a Media Player can do, that an HTPC system CAN’T. But the same can’t be said the other way around.
Not 100% true.   Today’s HTPCs cannot stream HD movies from many of the major streaming services (Amazon, Vudu, Netflix?, etc..) due to Hollywood DRM restrictions while a good dedicated media player shouldn’t have this restriction.   Intel recently released the Intel Insider technology to address this limitation, but I’m not yet aware of any streaming media players which take advantage of it.    So if streaming 1080p + Surround Sound is important to you, you might want to have another device to augment the HTPC.    My personal suggestion is a BD player which supports the services you desire, since BD playback on an HTPC is surrounded with DRM pitfalls as well.    Nothing that can’t be overcome with money and time, but I wouldn’t recommend it for the casual user.

                                (I’m not a Netflix user, so I can’t speak to whether they’ve addressed this issue.)

                                  You may just want to pop in an NVidia GT430.   They are less than $100 and seem to have the best UI for controlling refresh-rates if the pure 23.970 trick for movie playback is important to you.
