Just wanted to alert everyone to an issue I discovered with the UDM-Pro’s firewall. It does not apply rules to VPN traffic. I haven’t found any other issues with the application of firewall rules, but it is troubling nonetheless.

Ubiquiti released the 1.7.2 stable firmware for the Unifi Dream Machine (UDM) and Unifi Dream Machine Pro (UDM-Pro) gateway devices over the weekend. There isn’t a massive amount of detail in the release notes around what was improved, but they definitely stealth fixed an pretty major issue for those using SFP+ WAN connections.

This issue with incredible slowness when deep packet inspection (DPI) is enabled isn’t new to the UDM/UDM-Pro firmware version 1.7.0, I just haven’t had a chance to make this video public until now. Hopefully it’s something that UI will fix, because DPI is a great feature, and it sucks that I can’t enable it.

Ubiquiti released a new “stable” firmware update for the UDM & UDM-Pro. This is huge news because the UDM hasn’t really gotten the love it deserves, despite being first to market. Undisclosed in the release notes is the ability to restore from a non-default backup, which unfortunately doesn’t go well for me…
