For 3D, I like my passive 3D LG 47LW5600 LCD over the active 3D Samsung PN50C675 Plasma I replaced with it.  I find passive glasses far more comfortable (less headache inducing for me) and good for crowds(bought a huge pack of glasses for cheap).  But I found the plasma nicer for 2D viewing.

These days, I pretty much use a laser/led projector for viewing on a huge screen and only breakout the 3D TV for just those titles.  And it’s a hit or miss if it’s better to watch 3D at 47″ or 2D at 120″.  If I redid my setup now, I’d problem look into a 3D compatible projector so I could get the best of both.

Ooo, nice find, I <3 mine.  Still can’t believe how long I held on to my NTSC tuners for.

Out of curiousity, if you go to your sound settings, select the device and do properities.  Under the “supported formats” tab, is the computer showing all the formats your receiver can handle correctly?

http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/Power puts it at around 148w draw off the items you named (it may use a little less or more depending on item specifics).  And that’s without running any USB devices, PCI cards, etc.  So you’ll be pushing that power supply really tight.

Any HDCP issues that you might see with the specifications on this card?

The same standard HDCP issues that seems to happen with any card.  It’s all about handshake issues, which seems to have more to do with Windows and the TV/receiver connecting right than the particular video card.  I’m still glad I eventually invested in a HDMIDective to get rid to those occasional HDCP handshake problems my setup had.

Just be aware of how your current recordings are flagged.  I hadn’t upgraded in years, was still running an x2 4600+ and just upgraded to newer motherboard and CPU today (been playing LAN games with the GF and needed something with more kick for the 2nd computer).  Thankfully, I only upgraded to CableCard about a month ago, so I only lost a dozen or two recordings due to copy protection flags on them not allowing the new system to play them.  Just something to be aware of, didn’t cross my mind before I upgraded.

If I hadn’t just spent my mad money on an Oculus Rift, I’d be so tempted by these.  I used to have a x10 setup and loved it.  Until I moved into my current condo and started getting random phantom signals; random lights turning on at 3am eventually led to me pulling the system and selling it off.  I’m curious what you think of the z-wave; is it pretty good at filtering out random signals?

Any suggestions for Haswell mobo’s with CIR?  I just did some reading on CIR and my preliminary search seems to say that it’s not quite as simple as just getting a CIR header.  Are WMC IR receivers normally bundled or sold separately?  (The separate ones I found on Amazon look huge and I’d like to keep it internal like my USB-UIRT currently is.)

I’d always considered using a hack like this and putting a full blown WMC IR receiver into a drive bay.  http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17579411&highlight=mce

I’ve got a 6570 in my HTPC and it works pretty well for gaming.  On board solutions are a bit underpowered but I know the AMD APUs can support “dual graphics” mode where it will crossfire the onboard video card with the dedicated video card to make it run better. (chart for which cards will do dual graphics with which CPU http://www.cpu-world.com/info/AMD/Recommended_graphics_cards_for_AMD_dual-graphics.html )  Personally, I’d pick my CPU entirely based off CPU performance and not the dual-graphics feature, but just figured I’d give you this food for thought.

As far as I know (someone correct me if I’m wrong), but the HD 6570 is more powerful than the AMD A8-6500K.  I believe they both have the same level of hardware decompression but the 6570 has:

                          480 Stream Processing Units
                          24 Texture Units
                          8 Color ROP Units

                          while the AMD A8-6500K has:

                          128 Stream processors
                          8 Texture units
                          4 Color ROPs

Unless there was some new hardware decode feature added to 7000 series that I didn’t notice (always possible- I’m a bit out of the game keeping a tight eye on the latest and greatest stuff), you’d be better off sticking with your dedicate card.  Unless you want to shave a few extra watts off the power usage or use a case that won’t hold the card.

Also check your receivers’ settings.  I don’t know that model, but on mine there is a setting for HDMI throughput.  One is “Receiver+TV” the other for “Receiver”.  When set to “Receiver+TV”, it dumps the audio out through both my receiver and sends the signal on to the TV.  The problem with this setting is that sometimes my machine would see Dolby Digital, DTS, etc from the receiver and sometimes it would just see the modes supported by the TV.  Setting it to just “Receiver” makes my computer always see all the modes correctly and I don’t wind up with DD stuff playing as 2 channel PCM.

I recently updated mine from using NTSC and QAM tuners to Cable Card & added a SSD for the OS drive.  My 5 year old dual core (wow) is still running strong and is more than enough for what it does.  The SSD makes it run much smoother and it feels like a new machine.  And the SiliconDust network cable card tuner let me put my router, cable modem, and cable card device by the cable entry point and I can network to my HTPC anywhere I want it.  Being no longer forced to put the HTPC near a cable line for NTSC input really opened up my living room.
