What exactly causes this issue?  Why is it that it’s only WMC that is “black”?  Again, if I open Task Manager and close eshell.exe I can use the computer no problem.  I’m just curious about this because you’d think that this would be something that would be hammered out if the program is supposed to be used in this capacity.

      Thanks for the answers!

Mike, YAMMM has always worked fine for me.  It’s just that whole idea of getting the info to show up in two places.  I actually switched to MyMovies to give them a shot and I love the interface, I actually find it loads my movie collection much faster than WMC, but I’m having tons of trouble with it.  The service keeps crashing on me so I can’t set up a second machine, and I have 2 copies of each move showing up in the movie list.  I think it’s because I have multiple id files in each folder.  But all that being said, if you posted a guide about getting the info on a second machine I’ll definitely use YAMMM again.

Did that over the weekend and it worked perfectly!  One other question about this, if the PC that the shared folder on is asleep, will trying to access the folder wake it up?  And if it does, will it go back to sleep after I’m done?

Mike, not a clue.  Really the weirdest thing.  Again, I’m not saying it was this, but I started to have all my problems (BSOD, recording issues) right after I installed Valve.  Last Friday when I got home from work I did a restore to right before I installed that and everything has been working fine.  I had installed other stuff after Valve too but I used that as my go to date.  We only have one show set to record over the weekend on Sunday night and that went fine, but it usually does.  Then yesterday, we have 2 or 3 record on network TV and all those went without a hitch.

The only other thing that cropped up just yesterday was the WMC wouldn’t properly return from sleep.  I say only WMC because we could see the mouse cursor moving around a black screen, and we could get to the Task Manager, but couldn’t see or control WMC.  That happened twice yesterday but then it was fine this morning when I woke up.  I have a strange feeling that these problems are coming from a Windows update.  After I did the restore on Friday the only thing I did this weekend was install some updates, then this black screen thing happened.  Gotta see if it happens again today.  Less than two months into this and I have only had a completely working PC for about 2 weeks!

Since I did a system restore I haven’t had any BSODs, which is obviously very comforting, so I’m glad that worked.  We don’t really have any shows that are set up to record on the weekends, though, so I’ll have to see how it goes tomorrow when Dr. Phil tries to record again.

              Camaroon

I’ve always heard that the 360 was the only extender but I figured any computer could be turned into one.  I have a 1st gen 360 and figured I better not give it a lot of work.

So what’s the best way to share the recorded TV?  Everything else is shared fine.  Should I just make the folder that it gets downloaded to a shared folder then point the other computer at it?

Aaron, thanks a bunch for the response!

I’d say TV watching is definitely priority #1 but I do have a collection of about 5,000 songs and 200 ripped movies that I want to be able to have access to.  How is the extender set up more limiting with movie streaming?  Also, if I went with the extender set up, which one of my coomputers should be the main one and which should be the extender?

                  Camaroon

Interesting.  I don’t have a clue what would’ve started interfering with that all of a sudden.  The most recent plug-in I installed was the hulu desktop software plus the hulu WMC plugin that integrates with it.

Well, I’ve had the PC on since I restored it and everything seems to be better.  It’s responding faster and it hasn’t frozen (knock on wood).  I’ll see if this helps this prohibted content recording issue.

                    Camaroon

Yeah, this problem literally came out of nowhere.  I did a search as well and noticed the Cyberlink relation.  But I haven’t installed anything related to Cyberlink.  When I see the error occur it seems to be accompanied by an icon for Clear-fi, which is an Acer program that came preinstalled on this machine.  It’s basically blu-ray software and a media sharing system.  So perhaps this is a Cyberlink product?

I decided to do a system restore back to the last point I remember things being good.  This was around the 15th.  Ever since I’ve seen the problem I started this post about and things just haven’t run as smoothly.  Hopefully this helps.  I just did the restore when I got home tonight cause my computer had at some point today turned on and froze.  So this is my first step.  If this doesn’t work and problems keep persisting, I might just do a complete restore back to factory default and start again.

                      Camaroon

Aaron, I just did last night.  But I’ve got other issues to worry about now.  For no apparent reason, my computer has decided to crash into the BSOD about 4 times over the last 2-3 days.  I don’t know where this came from cause everything had been working fine.  But a couple of days ago I started to get a message about DMRengine.exe has encountered an error and must close.  When this came up, the computer would get weird a freeze a little, but then it would work fine after a minute.  But I’d have to think that whatever is causing DMRengine to quite must be crashing the computer too.  What a mess!

                        Camaroon

I’m still getting this message, but I’m never around to check the tuners when it does.  It seemed to be going away the last couple of days but it came on strong today.  Dr. Phil again, Jeopardy, and The Office all got flagged tonight.  But even though The Office stopped recording about 11 minutes in, Up All Night, which comes on right after The Office, was recording fine until I had to reboot my system because it started to act weird.

I’ve checked the recording logs and seen the “Partial” recordings, but it doesn’t give a specific error, just that it stopped.  This is unbelievably frustrating.

Sorry for the multiple duplicate responses.  I was really having a hard time posting last night and got it cleared up today.

But it looks like things may be getting back to normal.  Dr. Phil recorded today and my wife said she doesn’t remember seeing the error.  And Top Gear is recording right now and no error popped up.  I’ll keep an eye on it and post back if I keep getting it.  Again, thanks for the help!

                            Camaroon

Thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated. This is basically the general gist of what I’ve gotten from the research that I’ve done, that this is a mistake and really shouldn’t be happening. The last two days I’ve had some series record fine, and others have been flagged. For example, yesterday My Strange Addiction and Khloe and Lamar recorded fine. Then today, Dr. Phil got flagged and didn’t record. And tonight, The Bachelor recorded fine but Alcatraz got flagged (but recorded fine anyway). I’ve restarted a couple of times since this started happening and it’s obviously not gone away, but it seems to be a bit less. So at this point with the last 3 or 4 eps of Dr. Phil having this problem should I be making a complaint?

Also, can you guys let me know how to check which flag code I’ve gotten? Is there a log that I might be able to go back and check? Also, is it possible I might see any other type of error code, or that it could be an issue with my setup?

This is a test post.  I’ve had about 5 or 6 posts in the last two days get kicked back as being “innapropriate for this website” and I’m trying to see if it’s me or what I’m writing.  I keep getting the error “CAPTCHA reuse attack session detected” when I preview a post.  I’ve closed the browser, logged out and logged back in.  I keep getting it with the original content I was trying to post as a reply to this.

Thanks for the repsonses guys, much appreciated.  This is the general gist I’ve gathered from researching this problem, that it was a mistake and shouldn’t happen.  In the last two nights we’ve had other shows set to record and some have worked, others have been flagged.  For example, last night My Strange Addiction and Khloe and Lamar recorded fine.  But today, Dr. Phil got flagged again today and didn’t record.  Then tonight, Alcatraz got flagged but recorded anyway, but The Bachelor didn’t get flagged.  So hopefully it’s getting itself worked out.  I’ve restarted a couple of times since this first happened but obviously that didn’t completely clear it up.

So the last 3 or 4 episodes of Dr. Phil have had this.  Should I make a complaint at this point?  Sorry for being a noob with these error codes, but if I’m sitting here and see this happen how do I find out what kind of flag it was?  Or is there a log I can check some where?  Is it possible that I might see an error code besides those two?
