I want to build my father-in-law a system with one of my old PC’s that I can rip his CDs to and teach him how to access the songs with some sort of remote.  I want to make it super-simple for him as he is not computer literate.  I thought maybe Linux would not require as much resources as running XP, and I don’t know of any good PVR software that will run on something older like Windows 98 or ME.  The cpu will be Pentium 3 550 mhz, 384 mb RAM, and a Geforce 2 MX video card.  Will any version of Linux work on this setup?  I’ve never had any experience with Linux, but I’d like to try.  I thought of using Freevo?  Or is there something better?  How complicated is getting Linux set up?
