    The Playstation 3 has overscan when playing 4:3 ntsc dvd. So the test pattern is squished as a result and so it can’t be accurately used on the PS3.
    If you test and think your dvd player is using overscan then I think the test pattern won’t be displayed properly and so will give incorrect results.
