    Hey all!

I was a regular lurker and poster in the old days when HTPCnews.com was an incredibly active site with all kinds of great people answering all kinds of great questions.  I recently started looking at it again, and was surprised that days and days can go by with no one posting.  That’s sad.  After some poking around, I found out that missingRemote is where the party is at now!  I’m so glad I found you guys.  I’m sure there is some dramatic and intriguing story about why HTPCnews.com is dead and this is the new HTPC wonderland, and if someone wants to give me the quick history, cool.  I’m not trying to pry, though, so no worries if that’s a bad topic to raise.

Anyway, it looks like my trusty old HTPC is finally dying, after 4 years of heavy use.  I bought all of the parts based on the advice of people who are now the top posters here, and it has served me well.  So, I’m back, probably looking to build anew, and you’ll see me around here for a bit while I put my parts list together.  So much has changed with the various HTPC technologies in the past 4 years that I don’t even know where to start.  I’m a damn newbie again, only with less free time (and, I’m happy to say, I now have to worry about WAF, which was not the case 4 years ago).

For any of you HTPCNews folks, I posted there under the name PhatJew (for those who might remember), and was in the top 30 posters for a while before I dropped out.  I decided to go with RangerSkidmark here — it’s what I use more often online now.

If any of you have a moment, go on over to the thread I started in the Help Me build forum and see whether the problems that I’m having look fixable.

regardless, I’m happy to find this community, and I’m looking forward to learning from you!
