    I recently moved my old HTPC out of entertainment center for newer built to play BD.

    The older P4 based unit is scheduled to be my everyday PC and serve for digital dictation as well.

    Recently it began shutting down, on reboot it presents a screen stating it had suffered a thermal shutdown, but no diagnosis advice. Hitting F4 allows me to continue to reboot.

    After a half dozen occurences, I pulled the parts and installed it all in a Coolermaster TC05 case to improve cooling/breathing. But it still happens.

    In the move to the TC05 I re-attached the cpu fan, an AlCu flower type, with fresh Arctic Silver paste, after a thorough cleaning. Both cpu fan mounting screws are socked down tight.

    So, what else can I investigate?

    Relevant parts are;

    Intel P4e 3.0 cpu
    Intel 865Perl mobo
    2x512k matched ram chips in HT mode

    Gene
