I haven’t a clue what this is, but it grabbed my attention while I was reading about MSI’s new products on various websites. While looking at the pictures of their new boards, I noticed they had logos imprinted on them reading “True blu-ray Audio”. Strangely, none of the articles about these new boards even mention the words “True blu-ray Audio” in their articles or even hint at any new or enhanced audio capabilities.

I then did a Google search for MSI “True blu-ray Audio”, which lead me to product pages of two boards listed on their Global site. Yes, indeed, True blu-ray Audio is listed in the description page as a product feature, but offers only “Realtek ALC889 7.1 HD audio” as a definition.

I am lead (or maybe mislead) into thinking that (fingers crossed) Dolby TrueHD may possibly be supported here. Gigabyte has been using the ALC889 on their boards for sometime with software license extensions enabling Dolby Master Studio and DTS Live for some time. Might it be possible that MSI did the same for the ALC889 codec but has opted for software licensing of Dolby TrueHD (in favor of Master Studio or DTS Live)?

If the answer to the above spectulation is “No” and this is purely a marketing gimmick on MSI’s part, I will be very very very very very very upset.
