so I added some ripped movies to the Movies folder, and was wondering how to get all the info about them to show up (year, cast, cover art, etc.).

    Thanks,

Get an app like Media Browser or My Movies.  They’ll go out and retrieve all the info you’re looking for and display it in Media Center.

I second Media Browser.  Works for TV shows too.

Didn’t know media center had apps (kinda ignored anything media center related while I used SageTV).  is there a central place to get them?

if u want the manual way, you just go to http://www.dvdxml.com and download the xml file for your movie, put taht in the movie root folder, and voila. MCE will pull the info

Here’s a great place to learn about hacking Windows 7 Media Center with all sorts of add-ons:

Aside from hack7mc, this site is a great directory for plugins:

That’s what I do.  To me, it’s the easiest way.
