Helllo people, Great site here.
So i’m in the market for upgrading my system for gaming and tv by the end of this week.
I already have a system with the HVR-1600 tv tuner, ASUS nvidia 8600GTS video card, a ASUS P5B-VM SE mobo and a ASUS Xonar D2X PCI-e on a windows xp pro OS.
I been looking around and seen the good reviews the Avermedia M780 has been getting on here and other forums (i believe its this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815100014). So i’m looking at replacing the HVR1600 with that. I could have done it now but i dont have extra PCI-e slots left (matter of fact i dont have any slots left). Also does the card have its own software like how Hauppage does else what do people use for it? since i dont use Windows media center.
Hence the reasoning behind getting a new motherboard and i am looking at getting for the tv tuner and for gaming so any suggestion for the mobo is welcomed(budget of 200 to 300 after taxes). Also do motherboards come with the processors or its meant to be bought then installed, if so, which one would you suggest.
I dont intend to make anymore upgrades, except maybe the video card in the later month, for another year or 2.
I am a moderate gamer and the tv stays on for either live or scheduled recording and later editing.
I have a total budget of about $600 to $800 canadian dollars after taxes just in case i might have to change some other things like the case and PSU.
