So, I haven’t bought a new motherboard in 4 years, and it never even occurred to me that it would be possible to buy a motherboard that did not include a VGA out for the monitor. The Intel DG45ID board does not have a VGA out — only HDMI and DVI. Yes, I’m an idiot. The problem is, I have to plug this into a VGA port — specifically, a VGA splitter that is being sent to a small monitor and a 720p Panasonic projector all the way across the room, with a high-quality VGA extension cable run in the ceiling before the construction finished. I have absolutely no way to run an HDMI or DVI cable, because I no longer have access to that space. Old house, creative construction.
So, I need to convert either DVI or HDMI to VGA. I’m using this machine for SageTV and DVD watching, possibly some Blu-ray and/or HD/DVD. Is there a reasonably high-quality way to do this conversion, or do I return the motherboard and find one with a VGA output?
Do I need something like this $120 HDFury cable, or is that overkill?
