I’ve got a situation that if wired as desired I would need a 40′ to 50′ run of HDMI cable from the DirecTV STB to the TV.  I’ve been told by installation “experts” that runs of that length are hit or miss using HDMI but when I check out site like Mono Price or Blue Jeans Cable I see plenty of HDMI cable at lengths up to 100′.

If a 40′ run is so hit or miss why are reputable sites selling cable that long or longer without a disclaimer?  I suspect that the truth lies somewhere in between what I was told by the install pros and what the sellers claim.

So in light of all of this I now turn to the MR gang for your opinions.  If I proceed with plan “A” and utilize a 40′ to 50′ HDMI cable (good quality) how likely, if at all, is it that I will experience some sort of signal degradation or outright fail?

      Thanks in advance….

Who knows how every setup will work, but I have a 50 foot cable from Blue Jeans Cable made by Tartancable, which cost me about $40.  I wound up not using it, but (just for you) I hooked it up from my receiver to my 1080i 50″ plasma and it’s identical to the HDMI over Cat6 (again, about 50 feet) I’m currently utilizing.  I can’t see a difference playing back Blu-ray rips at 1080i.

If you’re interested in buying this cable off of me for a good deal, send me a PM.

          I’ll keep that in mind.

I’m out of town right now so it’ll be a few days until I can double check and make sure that 50′ is enough.

          I’l let you know.

          Thanks,

of all the over head ceiling mounted projectors i’ve installed most of which are 50′ hdmi cable runs i’ve not once had an issue with PQ, or stability. Some installers have seen hand shake issues when going 50′ or more, if that really is the case Monoprice also sells and HDMI repeater/booster, http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041914&p_id=2849&seq=1&format=2 and those I’ve used when doing 100′ hdmi runs and they’ve worked really well.

I know http://www.htguys.com have tested 100′ monoprice hdmi cable as well and had mixed results.

but as said above if you want, just get some like this: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10425&cs_id=1042501&p_id=6177&seq=1&format=2  two runs of cat6 and those wall plates and boom you’re done.
