Converting HD DVD to another format

Is there a way to convert an HD DVD disc to a different format?  For example if I have a disc (that’s not a combo disc) and want to be able to play it in my bedroom DVD player or my son’s room, is there a way to convert it to DVD?  If you can’t convert straight to DVD, is there a long way around like converting to DivX and then to DVD or something like that?
