I’m starting to acquire parts for a new desktop system and wanted to gather some input.  The system will be a dual boot with XPPro and Ubuntu due to some programs that I need that aren’t written for Linux.  (business banking etc.)  Also I am fairly new to Linux and finally taking the plunge.  I want to be able to play Blue-Ray.  I will be using the MB on-board sound and a DVI monitor.

    1.  MB with IGP that will provide full HD decode.  Ive been leaning toward the ATI 3200/3300.  Any suggestions on a MB and it’s Linux compatibility?

    2.  Should I go for a Blue-ray burner or hold off until prices on burner drives and media come down?

    3.  Any suggestions on Linux software for common tasks like ripping & burning DVDs, CDs, Video & Photo editing?  Also for HD video playback/editing?  And any other neat things you can think of.

    Many thanks in advance.    😀
