This is a bit off topic but my boss was asking me about it and I don’t know the answer. We want to start using stacks of laptop hard drives in external enclosures for persistent storage, much the way we would normally use dvds. I’ll explain reasons if asked, but should I be worried about some computers not being able to power a 2.5″ external enclosure from the usb port? These drives will not be used frequently and for convenience we are willing to spend to put each drive in a dedicated enclosure rather than swapping drives in and out as we need them.
