So we are moving to a house ;D  which will allow me to be a bit more invasive with my network set up so I am going to go to a central media server set up.

I was looking at 1000 Mbps routers and they are very pricey, but the switches are relatively cheaper. So my question for you network gurus is this, if I have a 100 Mbps router just for internet and to act as a DHCP server connected to a 1000 Mbps switch, then run all connections to the switch rather than the router, will the PC’s communicate at a 1000 Mbps or will they be hamstrung by the 100 Mbps router?

I am open to any suggestions and input as well. Just to give you an idea what will be on the network, the media server, 2 (soon 3) HD clients, one HDHR. Of lesser concern in regards to bandwidth, a print server, 1 office PC, and two laptops.
