What's your HTPC Screensaver?

Mar 26 2010

I like seeing what other users are doing and I know I've had my share of ideas "enlightened" from other members so following in the footsteps of Mike's "What's your HTPC Wallpaper?": What's your HTPC Screensaver?

Prior to W7 I've always adhered to a blank screensaver, preferring my display be shut off as soon as possible.  While I still do that on the majority of my systems, I'm really digging 7MC's Slideshow Screensaver.

I have mine setup to show a mix of:

1- National Geographic photo contest from the last couples years.  Everyone in the family loves animals.  Even the pets enjoy watching it though our pug hates seeing the bison and buffalo, he gets pissed and howls at them.

2- Photos I've taken while scuba diving.  I mix of wonder and nostalgia since I don't get to dive much anymore.  Goes well with the National Geographic photos.

3- Marvel and DC Comic wallpapers.  My son loves comics and 7MC Screensaver surprisingly blends them in so well with the other photos.  (OK so I'm the real Marvel\DC nerd in the family but my son is getting there)

Sorry for the poor quality screenshots but I took them from my virtualized HTPC since it was easier.

I use the W7 slide show too, but all family pics.

I use the slideshow also. It flips thru home photos that are rated 5 stars and some HD HDR photos I downloaded.

I'd be interested in your DC Comics and Nat Geo collection if you don't mind. The kids get a kick out of the random photos I put in the list.

w7 slideshow with pictures of our dogs at the moment, just because i haven't gotten around to making a slideshow for all of our family/friends pictures

I use Nozavi's NatGeo Wallpaper Download to get all the Net Geo photos, ~5,000 photos.

For the Marvel\DC stuff I'll zip them up and PM you the URL, it is only about 1000 wallpapers.

I'm all about it just turning off as soon as possible to save as much energy as possible. I don't even think it goes to a screensaver first. Back when it did, it was just blank.

i use the default photo slideshow, but reminds me i need to change it. Never good when you have a girl over and a pic of the ex pops up Smile

thanks for the reminder!

Still probably better than her catching a porn slideshow Wink

Jenny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROFL!!!! speechless Shock

Disabled.  I don't want it to interrupt my viewing experience when watching Hulu.  Full-screen Media Center seems to disable the screen saver automatically, but full-screen Hulu (browser version in IE8) does not.

I use SageMC & MovieTimes to have a slideshow of movies currently in local theaters.  You get a big poster, IMDB user rating, plot summary, rating, and running time.  Most of the people who've seen this at my house really like it.  It's also interesting when lesser known, Bollywood titles show up or when something gets re-released for a limited engagement.  I was shocked about a year or so ago when Wargames (yes, with Matthew Broderick) showed up in the slideshow.  It turned out they were playing it for one night in order to promote the (never should have been produced) sequel.
