Home Theater/House media server

My media server I built a few years ago just died.  It was a sagetv server on windows home server.  I am not sure where to start on rebuilding.  What’s new on the media server front.  I figure I’ll be going the wmc route since sagetv is dead, any advice?

Options are abundant, what are your requirements? Cable TV? Satellite TV, OTA?, are you serving media cross platform? Locale access or remote streaming? 

Will you be doing any light or heavy gaming? Do you use any streaming video services (ie Netflix, Hulu, Amazon)? 

Also, what’s your budget?
