Hey everyone, if you listen to Podcast #3, you'll see that we introduced a new monthly poll and here it is!
If your favorite software package isn't listed above, let us know in the comments so we can add it to the list and get your vote counted.
I moved away from MediaBrowser to My Movies recently due to the fact that it's just easier to use and manage in general with the included Collection Management, etc.
It would be nice to have more control over customisation, though.
Mediaportal (and particaularly moving pictures for movies) is missing
Hey Mike,
Based on your poll choices it appears this is only for HTPCs and not media players?
As far as my setup, I use Media Browser, MyMovies, Zappiti (Dune) and YAMJ (PCH) to manage my movie/tv library (although I of course understand I am probably not the norm!)
That is a lot of votes for Media Browser. I might have to check it out since My Movies destroyed my WHS last week, I should create a post on that.
Okay, we,ve gone ahead and added your choices. Remember, it's "primarily" so you can only choose one item in the poll.
Damian, we're intersted in learning what MissingRemote readers are doing in this area as a whole. We'll discuss the results in next month's podcast and also see who was closest in their prediction (Andrew, Mike, Mikinho and I made predictions of winnder and percentage).
Aaron,
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you should add those choices to your poll.
So the more important question, what does the winner of the prediction get???
added AppleTV per twitter user Brian
LOL, what does the winner get...um....fame and fortune, how's that?
If you guys want to participate in the prediction, hurry up and e-mail me @ mike (at) missingremote and we'll include those in the podcast
I'm excited for My Movies 4. I really liked My Movies, but lack of TV support was a deal breaker. I tried using Media Browser, but it was unstable on my machine. The latest version, and the previous version, both using Vista and Win7. It might have been a hardware issue, but I don't have any problems with any other software. Right now I'm just using the native 7MC libraries.
OK, I admit it, I'm confused by the question.
To me, managing my archived content means renaming the files and putting them in an appropriate folder structure so they can be consumed easier by the various front ends out there like XBMC or Media Browser and by metadata mangers. As far as I know, most of the items in your survey don't provide that functionality
I use Jack Luminous' TV Library plugin as my primary front-end to that since it's the only tool I've found that can seamlessly integrate archived content with current recorded TV in Media Center.
TV Library added. You are right, "managed" might be interpreted also as managing the files and metadata but in this case, we are referring to front-end software packages.
I use Media Browser for my collections (Movies and TV episodes) that I intend to keep.
I use Boxee for AVI movies that I watch and then delete. Boxee is also great for streaming Pandora and podcasts.
I use the built-in Video player (from "pictures and videos") for nightly TV episodes that I watch then delete. It's easier to delete an MKV after watching than Media Browser.
I use Windows 7 Pro x86 with the Shark 007 codec pack.
I use BMT to manage my movies and Diamond Theme to display them.
Media Browser, and Media Center Master for metadata, make a powerful, and not to mention free, combination. Whats great is that MCM makes metadata for just about all the major HTPC apps anyway, so its held in as high esteem as any of these apps IMO.
My Movies is very good of course, and now that it's got TV series support, its all the better. I like to use it for my disc ISOs, as it provides additional metadata about the audio tracks, subtitles, and extras on the disc.
Media Browser fanboy. It has its issues, but it's young and after trying pretty much everything else, I still find myself comparing them to it.
I choose Mythtv for the win.
XBMC rules. I play around with Plex a little bit, it got better but XBMC with its standard skin (Confluence, okay I admit, Customizable Confluence) makes my life (and my wife's) really easy.
