Awesome.

I was going to say it needed a tap until I saw it in the extra spot on the left.

Well I already have the kegerator, a microwave, a (much smaller) wine rack and a TV with surround sound. I'm part of the way there!

Ticker is overkill for me though, I'd rather just have that info on one of the TVs.

I think i'd want the tap by my seat rather than by my television. I dont want friends getting up and disrupting my view for another beer.

I like the concept but it should be spread out over an entire room. I like the idea of a separate bar w/ TV area, a TV on the wall that has ESPN News ticker, and of course the big screen TV.

Could I get a robotic beer can launcher instead of the kegerator?  I don't want to get up off the couch to get a beer.  Or maybe I can get a pet monkey trained to pour beer.....

I don't see how they spend $15k on this system.

Furniture: $2000
Big TV: $3000
Small TVs: 3X $400
Kegerator: $200
Tap: $200
Beer: $100
Speakers and equipment: $2000

Total:  $8700

Ok, maybe I can see it at $15k but that isn't watching your budget much

You're probably paying a ridiculous price for the furniture and the sports ticker.  The main TV's too small and there seems to be a lot of wasted space.  Panasonic isn't exactly the company I'd choose for even an average surround system.  For $15K I'm sure I could come up with a pretty setup that includes a better sound system and larger TVs.

Why would you store wine adjacent to heat producing A/V components and vibration inducing sub-woofer(s).

I don't want some lard-a$$ standing at the beer tap pouring off a beer, or nuking a burrito during the game!

There's probably install included in the 15k. If it's about 8k in components you could probably easily spend 7k on a guy installing it all.

I'm renovating both a roof (done) and a kitchen (just picked up the cabinets) this weekend and it's amazing what you would have to pay for labor...especially the roof where even the best quality shingles and tar paper would make up only a small percentage of what a roofer charges.

I can't see 7K for installation when all it basically amounts to is running speaker wires for the surround speakers.  Everything else is wired within the cabinet, which anyone with half a brain should be able to do.  The only extraneuous tasks would be customizing a remote control and calibrating the system, which shouldn't cost you anywhere near that much.

OTOH, I couldn't agree with you more about the cost of labor.  My Dad was old school and learned to do everything DIY and he passed along a lot of his skills to me.  I just completed a major project on my home (2-story colonial with 4- bedrooms) whereby I stripped off evry bit of siding and wood trim from the exterior, repaired areas of dry rot in the wood sheathing and patched holes and installed insulation in the walls where the builder had neglected to install it.  I then applied a 1/2-inch layer of foam insulation over the entire exterior followed by a layer of Tyvek wrap to keep out moisture.  I replaced all of the windows and exterior doors (16 windows, front entry door and 8-ft slider) and replaced the wood trim with Fypon composite trim board (zero maintenance and will never rot) and then reinstalled all of the vinyl siding using new J-channels.  Aside from a few times where my son helped me I did the job entirely on my own.  It took me about 7 or 8 months to complete.

I spent about $12K for the doors and windows and about another $5-6K in siding, insulation, and trim and a few new tools to help with the job.  Had I hired someone else to do the work I would have easily spent 2-3 times as much as I did, even though the job would have been done much faster.

My brother is building a real HT.  Complete with two rows of seats, a star ceiling, and huge projector screen.

He is going with a HT installer for the equipment and gave them a 25k budget.  I bet most of that will go towards profit for the installer.  I keep telling him that it isn't that hard, and that I can walk him through the install, but he insists on getting it done professionally.

I don't think i could let someone else program my remote and hook up a few speakers and hdmi cables.  Those guys charge huge sums for cables. I picked up a bunch of 10" HDMI cables at frys for $2.  Maybe I can sneak up to Sacramento and throw those in before the HT guy realizes and save my bro some $$$.

Regardless, I am making sure they give him a remote that he is capable of programming himself.  My folks have a professionally designed theater, and it is a PITA to get someone to change a DVD player to a BD player.  By the time someone comes out, it is $3000 for that upgrade so I haven't done it for them.  The last thing I want for him is for his kids to want to install their Nintendo Wii 2 and he has to call them out to install it.  Lame...
