Xonar HDAV1.3 Deluxe: Asus HTPC sound card does Everything

Just saw this over at SPCR. My favorite quote from the introduction page is this one:

"However, thanks to the arcane and as-yet unimplemented encryption requirements of HDCP and PAP, no existing graphics cards are up to this task. Hence, the HDAV1.3: A $250 solution to a $10 problem."

lol, seriously ridiculous. But it's good to hear ASUS has stayed on top of their issues after an early release. I played with it a while ago and it was far too buggy to use.

I read that, too and enjoyed that part as well.  Tonight it occurred to me...in a few years I can see this sound card as being like the old Creative Dxr3 decoder cards.  Remember those?  I paid about $250 for a Creative DVD-ROM with a decoder card so that I could watch DVD's on the computer.  Now that can be accomplished with a $40 video card, if not cheaper.

I read about S3 was supposed to make graphics cards with PAP, but I don't remember anything saying they were released.  I just saw an article announcing some new graphics cards, but no mention of PAP.  I also saw they haven't released working Linux drivers even though they have been advertising linux support.
I guess I'll have to put that article in the Community news.

Ah, the joys of HD audio.  Good thing I can't hear a difference.
